Every day is cheesecake day

Untitled
Birthday cake for Henry!
Baked cheesecake with a chocolate crust & blueberry topping
In celebration of Henry's ascension to the infamous 27 Club on Sunday I decided to tackle one of my own (culinary) fears, namely the making of a baked cheesecake. Though I consider myself a fairly accomplished baker I am not too proud to say I was nervous about this one -- would it split, crack, fail to set, would the crust fall apart? So many horror stories! I am happy to report that the cake was a delicious success. Though it could have been a little sweeter the chocolate cracker crust and blueberry topping more than made up for any deficiencies in sugar and the cheesecake texture was spot on. I spy a lot of cheesecake in my oven's future.

Teapot

One of my best girls brought me this little tea pot, two wonderful tea glasses and some apple tea from Turkey when she came to stay. Even though she's left now I've been drinking a lot of tea and remembering her visit as one of the loveliest weeks I've had all year.

Robyn

I just treasure this girl so much, she's a modern day Marie Fredriksson. Also I am really into that furry buttoned jumper from the first video and will be keeping my eyes open for a similar approximation.

Shopping day

Arm warmers!
New sheets
Nesting season is here and I've been spending a little time thrift shopping for new things to keep me warm, like these leg warmers which I had thought would be a strictly at-home indulgence until I realised they do a cracking job as arms on my winter-inappropriate short sleeved cardigans. I also got some new-to-us sheets and things so I can continue eating tomato-based foods in bed without fear of ruining our landlady's nice white sheets with all that pesky red sauce. We don't have a couch in this apartment. It's not as though I enjoy eating my dinners in bed, you know?

Chilli bouquet

Chili bouquet!
It was only recently I learned that you could grow chilli plants in pots, on windowsills, in tiny containers in tiny apartments indoors. I think I'm going to buy one.
